The Place

Perched at 1,100’ in the rugged chaparral terrain of Mount George, where cabernet sauvignon vines have rested on our terraced hillside for over three decades. The vineyard was planted in 1992 on gravelly loam soils and volcanic bedrock, providing small, intense clusters. The cooling fog from the San Pablo Bay is present throughout the growing season, allowing for extended ripening and site-defining acidity. We farm intentionally with organic and biodynamic practices, promoting soil health and biodiversity in and around the vineyard.

The Wine

An honest expression of both vineyard and vintage, crafted in small lots. Grapes are harvested in selective blocks to achieve modest alcohol levels and fresh acidity. Crush and fermentation take place among the vines with ambient yeasts, allowing the wines to preserve a pure quality of place and time. The wines are then cave-aged in mostly neutral oak barrels for at least 18 months, resulting in a finished bottle that is truly estate grown and made.

Sown like sparks are the seeds of desire

Our name was born from the words of Helen Hoyt, an early 20th century poet from St. Helena. In The Pouch Full of Sparks she paints a cautious, yet optimistic picture of agriculture working in harmony with nature, by the literal and figurative sowing of seeds.

Our label imagines The Sower as our heroine, gazing toward the future with purpose. She carefully sows the seeds from her pouch, each representing the pillars of our farming and winemaking philosophies:

Uncompromising craftsmanship, complete dedication to sustainable agriculture, and the preservation of family winemaking in Napa Valley.
